Newest Sewing Table re-do

Next in line is this one. http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...e-t221332.html

But, I finished this one up and I'm happy(ish) with the results. It was in very poor condition to start with, missing chunks of veneer and was antiqued with some horrible paint that had drips everywhere and was a nightmare to get off. The finish isn't as smooth as I'd like but at least now it can look in the mirror without being embarrassed. A 15 clone came out of it, but I think it's a Singer table.

Here are the before and after pics.

Candace,

Good job!!!!
The difference is a literal miracle.

My monitor makes the color look to be a blackish / dark silver grey. Is that right or is my monitor off?

And what kind of paint did you use?

Joe

Candace 05-22-2013 11:10 AM

Yes, it's a darker grey metallic. It's a Home Depot Martha Stewart, specialty paint. Kind of pricey for a small amount. I wasn't too crazy about the coverage, so it needled lots of coats, even using a primer. But, it's soap and water clean up which was very nice and it didn't stink. I would use it again.

Hi Candace,
Good job! It looks great. That paint really gives it a "cast iron" look. Keep up the good work.

Wow! Candace, what a difference, it is awesome! You did a great job!

oksewglad 05-22-2013 05:03 PM

Looks fantastic--have a couple old dressers that could use a spruce up too. Thanks for sharing

Candace 05-22-2013 05:05 PM

I now need to figure out where to put it or if it needs to find a new home. You can only stack them 3 high in any given room without them toppling over. Just kidding;>

Mariposa 05-22-2013 05:54 PM

Terrific transformation! :)

DanofNJ 05-22-2013 06:15 PM

Super nice!!!!!!!

MdmSew'n'Sew 05-22-2013 06:16 PM

Wowser! One of my favorite things to do when not quilting or knitting is furniture refinishing - I think it's all of a piece, color and texture and creativity takes many forms - and you did a fantastic job on the cabinet! Gives me a few new ideas for a bookcase I'm working on right now, thanks Candace!

Angel Bear 05-22-2013 06:24 PM

The transformation is remarkable! Great job!

DebbE 05-22-2013 06:27 PM

I love it when someone takes what many would consider 'junk' and turns it into a real treasure. You did a wonderful job -- the finish looks very smooth and its gorgeous!

tessagin 05-22-2013 07:37 PM

Looks really good. Sometimes a little extra $$ on the right product and you just kind of stick with it.

foufymaus 05-22-2013 10:19 PM

I love the cabinet, it's a beauty, and i think i have a matching sewing seat for it. If i'm correct about the legs. It's a beauty. :D

Cheryl Streeter 05-22-2013 10:45 PM

As the old saying goes, "you made a silk purse out of a sow's ear." Great job!

MimiBug123 05-23-2013 12:48 AM

Looks amazing Candace. What did you use, if you don't mind me asking? I'm really curious about this stuff since I painted my grandmother's dressing table and used water based paints (disaster) - I followed the recommendation of the guy at the paint store but I'm really unhappy with it. It's okay from a distance though. It's the one that I thought might inspire your 640-2 cabinet as I just went with the glossy black finish and it ended up looking Asian instead of French provincial .... didn't take much!!

orangeroom 05-23-2013 02:04 AM

Very nice job! I admire people who can take something questionable and turn it into something beautiful. That looks very modern now.

miriam 05-23-2013 02:42 AM

Candace, I need to have your expert ideas for about 100 tables...

callen 05-23-2013 04:21 AM

Fantastic job. Very well done - now, if only we could look that good after a re-do !!! LOL

I used a Martha Stewart, metallic paint sold at Home Depot here in the U.S. It's water clean up. I'd prefer to keep these tables in their natural, wood state if possible, but some of them are just too far gone or too ugly.

janegb 05-23-2013 09:10 AM

You certainly did a wonderful job. I know about that white dripping paint, and what a mess it is to get off! I salute your patience and perserverence!!

Cagey 05-23-2013 09:12 AM

What a difference. Looks great. Like the tones in the metallic paint. In some of the pictures it almost looks like a greenish highlight.

novicequiltergrandma 05-23-2013 02:19 PM

Love the color!

AliceQ 05-23-2013 02:56 PM

I think it's gorgeous!
