Thanks, everyone, for your input--even Joe and Miriam for patching things up and admitting you're grumpy. We all have grumpy days, but gotta say, I felt a bit tense over the prickliness while it laste--like rain that lasts too long.

As for the sewing machine, I lost interest immediately, mostly because I felt the need--no, DESIRE--to tell the seller that he should not claim it's a rare piece, nor to say "not that anyone would want to [use it]." And as for "make me an offer, don't low-ball," a $50 offer would NOT be unreasonable in this area--but to him I'm sure it'd shut down all negotiations, even if I were truly interested. The OBO ads are not getting flagged on CL here in the Baltimore area .Are they elsewhere?

I bought a Singer 15-91 in a beautiful cabinet back in the summer, but have not had it rewired yet, and am too afraid to do it myself, as I 've stated before. It was listed by an estate sale dealer for $80 and I got it for $50, and it's in very good condition.

Cloudy here all day, but no rain. We will take any rain that any of you can spare!

That being said, I squashed my desire to say anything at all because it doesn't matter since I don't want the machine. He will find out soon enough that he is wrong.

There will be another sewing machine for you and you will love it. The Singer 15s are very nice machines. You should get it rewired. You would really like the machine. I wonder if Joe does the rewiring on those.

When I read things like this ad, I often get annoyed (it's not rare! of course you would want to sew on it!). It reminds me of this comic: http://xkcd.com/386/ (hover your mouse over the comic for an extra punchline)

Makes me crazy too! One time Darrel pulled out a mint condition Centenial 221, declares it to be a "Singer babylock" and said that it will bring $100. After all the times I've heard them declare old treadle to be worth $500!
