I mostly go to Victorian Sweatshop as I do want to occasionally purchase a pretty machine, find parts, talk about prices, find someone who has the same machine, and so on. Besides, the really knowledgeable people are over there.

And gosh, that is one pretty machine.

What/where is Victorian Sweatshop?

miriam 03-11-2016 06:20 AM

If you google search you will come up with it. Search "Victorian sweatshop discussion" or Victorian sweatshop forum" theRe is photo gallory and lots of manuals for the old machines. You don't have to know anything about machines to join. There are plenty of us nutty people there as well as some who are knowledgeable. I learn so much from the knowledgable people and laugh with the nutty ones. No question is too dumb.

Hello, I have your exact same machine. Grew up in Chicago in the 50's and 60's. I have been researching the machine the last few weeks. My cabinet is a match too, I just spent 3 weeks refinishing it. My serial number is A49589 - close to yours. I have gathered some infomation but I have a dentist appointment this morning, can post to you what I have this afternoon. Looks like they will post upside down or sideways, have no clue why.

Welcome to QB. Great job on the cabinet. Your machine will clean up nicely too. Sewing machine oil on a cotton ball will take off the grunge, and follow up with a good car polish. Just be careful around the decals if the clear coat has been compromised. It's an interesting early clone, don't see too many black Brother built ones. If I owned this I'd turn it into a treadle or hand crank machine.
