Puget Sound/ NorthWest Get-Together?

Nothing is set in stone. I'm just asking to see how many people would be interested in meeting up somewhere in person one weekend and where a good place would be.
I'm looking for people's thoughts and ideas, let's see if we can work something out. Not just vintage people either, anyone on the board that wants to come would be welcome.
Yes, I know it's vague, this is just an idea at this point.

Sounds great but your 2300 miles northwest of me so it'll take a bit to get there:D

Stitchnripper 08-29-2014 05:33 PM

We will be in Puyallup from November 27th til December 8th but not sure about a weekend but sounds like a great idea

Cari-in-Oly 08-29-2014 08:05 PM

Me me me!!! I'm in. I can't think of a place right off, but I'll give it some thought.

I'd love to meet my Board Buddies! I live in Richland, WA, and have a pretty flexible schedule. If you get me before I have my hand surgery! Date not set as yet.

I will need to keep track of this - I have family in WA I could make it a fun trip. Next summer would be nice, so not to be concerned about bad weather.

Isn't there a quilt museum around La Conner? Not that we could use it for a gathering but it could be a nice field trip.

wilburness 08-30-2014 05:05 AM

Dratz, you are 2000mi and 30hrs away from madison. where is Macybaby! she and her DH loves road trips. she will find a machine or two to pick up along the way. LOL

Caroline S 08-30-2014 05:37 AM

Count me in for a meet up. I live in Spanaway. It would be fun to meet up with other vintage machine collectors local to me.

Rodney 08-30-2014 05:46 AM

I posted about this down in the events section too.

Sounds like fun but too many hrs. driving! Macybaby needs to build that vintage sm museum and that's a distance I could handle! (she's more in the middle of the country --South Dakota.

I'm in. Can't think of a location though.

monopas 08-30-2014 12:15 PM

I'd actually leave the house to meet you nice people.

Rennie 08-31-2014 03:40 AM

Too far for me also --- but now if someone decides to get one together closer to North Carolina, that would be great!
You Northwesters have fun!

Rodney 09-02-2014 01:50 PM

I'll be checking out a couple parks here in Centralia/Chehalis tomorrow. I need to find out if I need reservations, what dates are open, etc. I want to get something set up by the end of the month. I'll be aiming for a Saturday to make it as convenient as possible for people to attend. The weather gets really iffy after September and it's easier and more fun to do anything if the weather is good.
Rodney

crocee 09-02-2014 02:04 PM

Make sure to take lots of pictures so those of us who can't make it can at least see the fun

There's a newer park here in Lacey that has covered picnic areas that I *think* have electrical outlets. I've been trying to think of indoor spots, didn't even cross my mind to think of an outdoor area.

I booked a meeting room!

Here's what I have, It's a bit of a short notice. I booked the meeting room at Timberland Regional Library in Centralia for Saturday Sept. 20th from 11AM to 3 PM.
Sorry for the short notice but the library was booked through October otherwise. I chose the library over the park for a few reasons. It has decent bathrooms, is indoors and is free. The room holds up to 40 people sitting, 70 standing so it should be large enough. I did forget to see if there were tables inside to use. I'll go back well before the meeting and ask. Library rules are no buying/selling stuff so a swap meet is out. I think bringing machines and working on projects would be ok. If people are trading/exchanging/delivering things we should probably keep it outside.
This is my first time setting up any sort of meeting like this. Advice and criticisms are encouraged. I want this to be fun for all attending and I'm hoping we can grow it into a regular thing.

Caroline S 09-06-2014 06:20 PM

Meet and greet, show and tell. It should be fun. Have you decided on the time frame yet?

Cari-in-Oly 09-06-2014 06:40 PM

Anything I can help with, let me know. As an aside, that little sandwich shop right down the street has delicious food.

I was able to get a look at the meeting room today. It's on the ground floor, has tables as well as chairs and electrical outlets. The lady I spoke with didn't see any problem with us bringing in sewing machines and working on our projects so please feel free to do so. I know I'm going to.
There's also a small kitchen area and there are coffee pots so we'll be able to have some coffee and bring some snacks while we're there too.
I hope a bunch of you can make it, it should be fun.
Rodney

Cari-in-Oly 09-08-2014 04:38 PM

I don't drink coffee so I'll probably bring an industrial size pepsi with me. And a snack or three. Hey, I can bring that cabinet if you want, I have to get my carport cleaned up so it's gotta go anyway.

Cari

Rodney 09-08-2014 07:15 PM

Ok, I'll take it on. Thanks Cari!

Caroline S 09-09-2014 05:57 AM

This is my RSVP. Looking forward to the get together.

Caroline S 09-10-2014 07:04 AM

Heads up to those coming from the north to Centralia on the 20th. I see from the local news reports there will be a MAJOR freeway project for I5 freeway at Olympia for the next two weeks, 8 lanes north and south will be narrowed to 1 lane north and south. The reports are that this freeway project will cause 15 mile backups both directions. I will be coming down to Centralia the backway east of I5, Hwy 507 through Roy, Yelm etc and avoid the freeway.

SteveH 09-10-2014 07:31 AM

If the 20th was not Heather's 50th BDay and we were already committed to Knotts Berry Farm (She was "Snoopy" there as a teen summer job) We'd be driving up there, trailer in tow....

SewExtremeSeams 09-10-2014 08:21 AM

Sounds like fun. Wish we were headed that way next week. Maybe we can catch with y'all next time. It would be fun to meet everyone.

Have fun!!!!

Thank you for mentioning this! This is the problem with not having a tv, or listening to the radio. I live in Olympia, and have seen the signs for the roadwork, but had no idea they were going to be doing day closures at all, much less on the weekends.

Well, it'll be like a present for my mother, who likes to take backroads.

Hey thanks for the heads up. I'll just take Yelm highway and Littlerock rd to Grand Mound. I can't drive the old highway that goes through Tenino. Every. Single.Time. I do, my eyes swell shut.
Question. What is everyone planning on bringing? I can't decide.

Well shucks. I live in Yakima and we were just there last week for a wedding reception. I'll be in Tacoma next month for the ASG yearly luncheon. The timing just isn't right to come over again so soon. I used to meet up with gals from the board here in Yakima but all but one have literally disappeared. My son lives in Austin TX and I met up with some gals there a few years ago and we're all still friends and I see them every year when I visit my son.

Put me on your list. If you plan another gathering I'll try to be there. If there are any Yakima ladies out there, we could get together and carpool.

JudyTheSewer 09-10-2014 11:37 AM

Rodney, thanks for organizing this. I wish I could come this time but an 11 hour drive next weekend just isn't in the cards. Maybe next time I can come join you fine folks. I hope you all have a super time!

Rodney 09-10-2014 05:29 PM

I live in Centralia and I wasn't aware of the major closures. Bad timing on my part. I'm hoping this is just the first of a regular thing and I'm more than happy to hear ideas on how to make it better next time. :)

We have to get through the first time first! LOL

Cari-in-Oly 09-15-2014 12:14 PM

Okay, I'm asking again. What's everyone bringing? I don't know what to bring other than what I'm bringing for Rodney. I can't decide if I want to bring some machines to play with, or just a couple and sewing projects to work on or what? I just don't know. The last time I went to something like this I took 4 machines I needed help with and actually got no real help at all.

Cari

Rodney 09-15-2014 01:15 PM

I'm only bringing one or two plus something to work on and Olivia. Olivia might bring one of her projects too. She told me to let everyone know to bring kids. Olivia is ten but plays well with all ages, she is also friends with a few members of the library staff.
I don't think anyone has anything against discreet buy/sell/trade among members but a full on swap meet and buying and selling with the public is definitely against library rules.
Don't worry Cari. Olivia and I are happy to help with loading/unloading. :) I haven't told her yet about the loaner machine. I figured I'd let you.
Rodney

Cari-in-Oly 09-15-2014 08:04 PM

Okay. I might have the 3yr old kidlet if she doesn't go to her Daddys' this weekend. Olivia won't really have to entertain her, Shye is good at entertaining herself and others.
I'll just figure on it being an ooh-and-ahh day and bring a couple machines and an easy project to work on. So if there can be discreet things going on, maybe those who are coming should post here what they're looking for so if someone has it they can bring it. I'll bring the Jones so you all can laugh at me for buying it.

Cari

Rodney 09-15-2014 10:45 PM

No laughing. I'm actually excited to see it.

How many people have sent RSVPs? I am thinking about bringing my Singer 28 hand crank. It would be a good excuse to get her out for some exercise.
