I quilted my string quilt in a 3" diagonal grid, it made it easier to quilt.

Thanks for that....I am currently handquilting a string quilt (using heavy cotton thread and slightly large stitching). It's been languishing for too long and I had trouble getting the bulk under my machine. Have since bought a Singer 15 clone (70's) so that should do the next one.

Earthwalker,
I cannot hand quilt anything any more, repetitive motion injuries prevent it. I used to quilt all of my quilts by hand, I miss doing it.
My current domestic machine that I use for quilting is a very modern Pfaff QE 4.2 w/10" throat space and built in walking foot. I piece most my quilts with one of my treadle machines.

DKuehn,
Parts of your treadle cabinet look like bird's eye maple, such a lovely machine and cabinet. The quilt is pretty too.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't know anything about bird's eye maple, but here's a closeup of the top.

Google search for "bird's eye maple" and you'll see the same as your picture.

Thank you for the comments on the orange quilt. This next one is still a work in progress. It's to be auctioned off at a reunion to help cover cost of the shelter we use. Hope they like it. It's called carpenter's wheel, but I know everyone all ready knows the name.
