Billy has a wonderful tute on cleaning this machine (and others) on page 46 in the virtual machine shop here.
I did mine and it turned out great!

Woot Woot is right!! My first vintage machine was a red eye.

I have to warn you, though, once you get your first vintage/antique sewing machine you won't be able to stop at just one. I don't want to 'enable' you in any way  but you should see all of the gorgeous vintage machines out there with all sorts of decal patterns on them!

You could try putting a hand crank on this particular machine, until you get new cords for it, your granddaughter will love to sew with it and she can go at her own speed.

What a beautiful machine, I did a search for the finger guard and found this site: http://www.universalsewing.com/tek9....criteria=520.1 Hope it has what you are looking for as your DGDs will be so lucky to be allowed to sew with that machine

I have always wanted a treadle machine. I remember my Aunt using one. When she would get tired she would let one of us kids work the treadle snd she would keep sewing. Is it a nostalgia thing? I finally bought one and I love it.

That is one gorgeous red-eye. Looks like it was loved and cared for. You are one lucky lady.

I got the link below from Billy so I could download a manual for a treadle that I just purchased. Hope it helps.
