It's a beauty. Both are!!

SteveH 06-13-2013 08:59 AM

Just to be clear, the Singer 12 in the front is not mine. These are the sellers pics. That one is for size comparison.

I have not received it yet.

audsgirl 06-13-2013 10:44 AM

Congratulations! What fantastic decals they have. I hope you get it soon.

Wow! Beautiful machine. I've never seen one before...

SteveH 06-14-2013 08:17 PM

The closest I've ever come is Cathy's Bradbury medium

pocoellie 06-18-2013 06:34 AM

What an absolute machine!!!!!!

well, she arrived today.

The ad said ready to sew, but that will be hard with no take up arm...

Lovely and worth the price anyway, but...

DanofNJ 06-25-2013 05:52 PM

Decals are in great shape...nice score Steve!

SteveH 06-25-2013 06:00 PM

thanks. I may have found the parts in the UK. (IF 12 and 13 are interchangeable, researching now)

Mizkaki 06-25-2013 06:04 PM

Steve,

Should be simple to make one. I have done so with a large cotter pin on a class 12. I can take measurement from the take-up on my Bradbury Medium. I'm willing to bet they are the same.

Cathy

Doing a quick visual measurement I think the 12's take-up is about 3/8 shorter than the Bradbury medium's.

Well, I heard back from the vendor apparently he tested this machine and then took it apart to clean it or ship it or something and probably "forgot to put those parts back" he's going to get the three components the arm the spring and the screw out to me as soon as possible

nanna-up-north 06-26-2013 05:14 AM

That's a really beautiful machine, Steve. I know the tender loving care you'll give it will make it happy.... and it's a good thing the vendor has the parts. I can't imagine trying to find parts for such an unusual machine. Not everyone has a parts machine for that model. Congrats!

It's ok, we had a plan.... Cathy has a Bradbury "Medium" and was going to bring the three parts down so I could fab up a copies. But now I do not need to!! woo hoo! back to the other 12 projects...

Great machine, and glad all the parts situation has worked out!

SteveH 07-01-2013 09:54 AM

well, almost worked out...

I was told last Wednesday that he would ship them in "a couple days". No shipping notice as of yet so I posted a question for status and suggesting that at this point perhaps expedited shipping might be in order. Here is what i got back...

"When I said I had the parts I meant I to look for them. I ended up pulling another 13K out of storage this weekend to get the parts from, so they should make it to the mail by late today."

He is NOT getting a good feedback from me when this is all said and done....

chips88 07-01-2013 10:39 AM

for 133.00 they better make good on this. it was his error . let us know how it turns out.

Mizkaki 07-01-2013 11:57 AM

I hear your GRRRR!!

SteveH 07-01-2013 12:13 PM

yep, you do.

I sent him a reply saying "since you appear to not be open to expedited shipping, perhaps since you are pulling a parts machine out, you could provide the missing 2nd spool pin holder as a "sorry"

His reply was to offer to sell me the parts machine... Good price, but NOT the solution I was looking for.

Janis 07-06-2013 05:47 AM

That's a great ending to the story Steve. I'm goad that you got the parts you needed.
Do you have any idea where I can get one of the fancy tension tops? I mean the top of the screw at the top of the machine? My Gritzner has just a regular screw in that place. I found out that my handcrank Gritzner is either from 1891 or 1898, (depending in whether or not you count the 7 that is on the serial number bar and is farther apart from all the other numbers and lower on the bar, as part of the number) It could be the style number instead.

SteveH 07-06-2013 01:11 PM

it would be either a parts machine, ebay ad, or someone with a lathe (without a list already) hehe

If you ever get caught up on your list and want another thing to do, let me know and I'll send you a photo of the other screw/knob to the presserfoot part of my machine. :)

still not quite the ending but now here she is with the newly redone 1890 irons and the laminated "industrial" top i made. (Caveat: Wood is NOT my forte...) It will look better once there is a nice hardwood laminate on the top and edges, but for now she works!!!

Very nice, Steve. Does she sew a stitch as nicely? I'd be happy to try out making a small quilt with it. Shipping wouldn't be too much would it? .... just kidding. Have fun with her... she's a beauty.

SteveH 07-24-2013 07:28 AM

Shipping would be $150... the machine however....

I have not actually threaded her up yet. She has been a shelf piece for decades. I am treadling it and oiling it (T-Flow) and then feeling "rough spots". They so far have been old oil and gunk built up at what was the ends of the travel.

Each one I find and clean makes it run smoother.

The Boat Shuttle is pretty worn. The tip is almost rounded. I am not sure if I will be able to sew with it or not.
I understand that any Singer 12 shuttle will work as well.

Tonight I needed something to do in the shop while my apprentice was working through a new technique we went over, so I took apart the face and cleaned all of the metal bits.

I also agreed to pick up this parts machine and bonnet for $100!!

now she will be complete as soon as I can veneer the base. I have a couple weeks till our Willets show and I want to have the three industrial machines side by side by side.
