That is the first thing I look for in the thrift stores.

cams allow for decorative stitches...
And now my real question...What do you guys do w/ 19, 20, or 30 machines?!?!?! :!: :XD:  i have an older singer - only goes straight and zig zag.. but, yowsa, it goes thru everything!!! I do have a little Bernette that i have to have fixed - the stitch length button doesn't work anymore. It does have a blanket stitch that i like, but other than that - i can do everything else on this older singer. |
I do sew different things with certain machines, one is better for quilting, maybe one is better for piecing, I have a sewing room, I keep several set up at one time. I just love to sew and love sewing machines, especially the older machines. It amazes me that they are so old and yet still do their job.

Old machines were made to last. These new ones that we pay way more money for, are lightweight for taking places, so made of plastic, just won't hold up. And the more digital the machine, the more things can halt the sewing processes! JMHO!! LOL!

I found a Singer 503a on my Birthday last year. I got her for $20 - no cams or feet. Door missing. It sews beautifully though. I gave it to my DIL to learn to sew. I asked her what she was going to name it. She thought and thought and finally said she was going to name her machine Margaret after her grandma. She was very fashionable in her day and she was a hard worker, very tough and sturdy built and she said she just loves her to bits even though she has parts missing.
You don't drop the feed dogs you raise the throat plate. Check your manual. |
Love my 503. She's a joy to use!

LOL Rocky! Great name. What good condition that machine is in-Lucky you!!

Congrats on Rocky! That was a great deal!

What a find! The cabinet doesn't look that bad from the pictures. It's the legs that are a problem. You might be able to just get new sturdier legs exchanged for those skinny looking legs. Enjoy your new baby!
