holy cow, the one my brother bought for me, which was a 1951 centenninal, with the shipping was $224.00. Then I bought one for a man I worked with, who didn't know what he had, said it wouldn't sew, didn't have a needle in it, I paid him $140.00.

From the little I've read about FW prices it seems some people believe they'll get this price. If you keep an eye on it the price will start to drop when they realize they are way overpriced. I've heard of people getting FW's in great condition for $75 at yard sales. Good luck in your search :) |
That is exactly what I thought also, however, my DH and I watched a 1962 Singer Featherweight sell for an outrageous price just before Valentines day. It was a bid auction and although I don't have the exact price, it was around $1250.00 (more than $1200 but less than $1300). It was in real good condition, however I would never pay that price for one. There were about 27 bids on it. Go figure!! Don't people know how many of these machines were made?

I bought a beautiful Featherweight on eBay about 6 years ago and paid around $250.00, including shipping. It was in excellent condition, didn't have a scratch on it, and all of the attachments were included. I paid about $100 to have it checked, oiled and all that stuff. It was perfect.
I guess the person listing this FW hopes someone buys it without doing their homework! |
priced that high cause they really don't want to sell it.

I paid $500 for mine 7 yrs. ago. It had been used very little, had been re-conditioned and serviced. Have had no problems with it, and wouldn't part with it for anything.

As I've always told my DH when we go antiquing.... people can ask any price for an item... the real value is always based on what an individual is willing to pay for it. I've noticed this machine on ebay for quite some time. Obviously the seller is determined to get this price.... he/she wants regardless of how long it takes.
