I went on ebay to get a machine I could use when visiting my son for extended periods. I do not want to carry my machine. I purchased a Benina 1010 (I have a Benina at home). I was surprised about the cost range and while I paid $260, I saw the same machine for over $700.

When I see ebay listings like this, I like to go to the advanced search and click on the completed listings for feather weights. Then select the order by highest first. Very quickly you will see what people are willing to pay. This is where the true value comes into play. A person can list for any high price, but it's only worth what another will pay for it. There are three that come up in the $1000 range this morning.

I think "someone" heard that the Featherweights are fetching some $$ and is trying to gouge the market. The seller probably saw freearm 222's going for that price and doesn't realize the difference. Either that, or the seller is a schmuck. IMHO

It's a nice machine, but not THAT NICE. But there is probably someone with enought money to buy it...but not me.

Sewbizgirl and Kaz:

I have a 1936 Singer 221, in great condition, with attachments, book, foot controller, and box for a little over $200. This is outrageously priced...and then EXTRA for shipping!
BTW, the seller needs a proofreader...cannot figure out how the scroll faceplate goes around to the light switch! Oh, well, I guess I'll hold on to my 3 "investments."

WOWSY! Must be the satin background in the display? I bought mine on Ebay and paid less than $200 including the shipping. This one does have the fancy faceplate. Although I love mine, and it is priceless, this must be one of a kind!

I think a lot of things are over priced on ebay. Check out quilting rulers for instance. Same or close to same price you can purchase them at LQS or JA. And you have to then pay their shipping which sometimes is HIGH.

Looks no better than the one I bought for $247.mine has original case in perfect condition, only smelled a little musty.

I'm with tjradj...
Perhaps a 222k would bring that price.
I bought my 221 on ebay (an VERY nice condition 1955) in 2005 and paid $165 including S&H.
Granted the market can fluctuate, but... $1,523.00 plus $23 S&H for a 221?
WOW.

Just what is a Private Auction? I've been buying and selling on eBay for many years and never heard of that before. Anyway, that is a nice machine, but I do think the seller is dreaming on that price. I have heard of some going in the range of $500.00, but this one is way over priced. I would say, that the one I have is almost as nice and I didn't pay anywhere near that price for mine.
The seller needs more than luck to sell it for that price.
