I got a kick out of doing a block too. It’s not my first block piecing, but it’s my first completed “quilt”, since I hadn’t ever put binding on before. I made the entire thing with my 1910 Singer 28K2 Hand Crank machine setting on a folding TV tray. Of course, I have an excellent coach and teacher here to help me, but I did all of the sewing and most of the cutting (I raided my wife’s strip and squares tubs for my pieces).

That quilt is a real blessing! Heal quickly and I hope you don't have any residual pain afterwards.

You're a better vintage seamster than I am CD. I made shorts on a HC 66 a few months back and it was so hard to control the fabric with only one hand. Let's say the shorts weren't my best work.
My block was the first I've ever pieced or bound, and was done on an motor driven 320K2

Rodney,

I'm really glad you like the quilt. You've always seemed like a very nice man, always patient, kind and willing to help whenever you could. More than anything, I hope that this surgery eliminates the melanoma from your life once and for all. Hang in there. You have a big heart and a great attitude.

Just in case you're interested, my block was made with a Lady Kenmore 89, with the exception of the writing which was done on a Singer 301.

Good luck with your procedure.

John

Rodney's quilt

Rodney,

I too want to thank Glen for allowing me to be a part of this incredible quilt made just for you. May it bring you mountains of joy and warmth.

Thank you everyone! CD I love that picture of you making the block.
I HAVE PICTURES! Elayne was kind enough to help me hang the quilt in her studio so we could get some good pictures of the quilt. It's been raining here and I don't have any suitable places to get decent pictures inside here at home.

First the quilt:

Now for the scarf and wash cloth!

The pictures don't do the quilt or the scarf and washcloth justice. I was hoping the signatures would show up a bit better. The quilting on the blocks is awesome and now I have two sewing machines with my name on them. ;) The scarf has a lot of textural detail in the weaving that the camera didn't pick up and the wash cloth feels really great in my hands.
Thank you very much Skip for putting this together and thank you again to all the men of QB for doing this for me. I will be taking the quilt to the hospital when I go in on Thursday.

Heavens, that picture block is extraordinary! What show off... I mean exceptionally talented person created it? :p I could barely embroider my own name (see bottom, second from left), and here's something embroidered that most of us wouldn't be able to draw
Talented indeed. Well done.
And only two more days of pain and discomfort Rodney. Rather selfishly, I hope you're back online soon. You can let us know the good and bad of it all where the good things will vastly outweigh the other, learning to walk again then back into the acquisition of more treasures.
Best of luck, and get back out of the hospital ASAP: They're full of sick people!
Mike

The guys and I really wanted to do this for you. They did the work. I just sewed them together. I made one block and my wife and I made the sewing machine block. It was fun. I hope all goes well for you and as Mike said get out the hospital fast to many sick people there. Thank you but the guys are the ones to be thanked.
