I would use dish water detergent and a soft cloth, like an old sock. Wash gently, don't rub. Rinse with clear water.

Go to the parts ordering dept at Sears. They will fix you right up. Need model number if possible. I order mine from them if not in stock.

The staple to close the belt comes with the treadle belt. You can also sew the ends together with a large needle and waxed dental floss. I sew mine as I usually end up
breaking the staple.

Boy , you guys have all the answers. I was really glad to get the info about the oil. My husband thinks 3-1 is the answer to everything. You guys are great.

But 3-in-1 oil is not the answer for sewing machines !! use a light machine oil made for that. Tri-flow is the new synthetic that sewing machine guys like.

wonderful group of people, I've been a member since 2007. I have bought parts from Cindy, she's great to deal with. Most treadle belts are 72" long and you cut it to fit.

i recently bought an antique "Free" treadle machine...i ordered the belt from "lehmans" for less than 8.00 and that already had the pin ready. also, for cleaning the machine use wd-40 everywhere..especially the bearings underneath the machine. then wipe everything down real good and oil the places indicated for oil. after cleaning the machine and the cabinet i gave all a good waxing and buffing with beeswax.
