Having been an antique dealer in the past....some of those are pre- 911 shop prices. I have sold treadles for $3-500, but now things are so different....So is the new pre-war and post-war era? We used to use those terms when referring to WWI or WWII.

jaciqltznok 01-08-2012 03:29 PM

ok..all giggling aside...these people are stoned...BUT, I would take the very first one..and the last one..Round bobbin...both are more collectible that the others!
wow..and I thought only OK had idiots on CL...guess I was wrong...hehehhe

Ok....if I had the money to burn, I'd probably buy the cabinet. The machine? Heh! Not so much!

Southern California has always commanded higher prices for antiques than most of the rest of the US. I've known folks that would travel and buy and head to San Diego or LA to resell it. Back in the early 80's, my brother and his family paid for an entire 2 week vacation by doing just that...bought a bunch of antiques in Colorado, then went home and sold them for more than what the trip and the antiques cost...put a nice chunk of change in the bank.

I've found one in my area. Funny, they show 2 pics but both are of back!!

If this machine is very old, then I am ancient! Hah!!!

This killed me - the tag line on this emphasizes that it has a "round bobbin" - as opposed to the standard triangular ones that we all use, I presume?

Canada Kate 01-09-2012 06:56 AM

Great thread - here's some from my area:

http://ottawa.en.craigslist.ca/atq/2746887546.html $500 Pheonix (?)

http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-se...AdIdZ340977938 $525 for a 1950's machine (not in good shape).

http://ottawa.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-se...AdIdZ337698331 $500 treddle.

http://www.usedottawa.com/classified...ation_14225214 I certainly hope the machine in the picture is not the one that is used for the alterations...unless the alterations are done by a 7-year-old?

Candace 01-09-2012 07:59 AM

" I was only able to spot one on ebay at a starting price of $499." Just because some dumbo lists their machine for that price on ebay doesn't mean it's worth it. Otherwise, I'd list one of my machines for $1,000 and that would make the other one worth that much too and I'd start rolling in the dough! Cracks me up that people really think "listing" prices on ebay qualify as appraisals. They really ought to be looking at selling prices not listing prices.

rob529 01-09-2012 08:09 AM

Love it, doesn't everyone want a machine you can't get needles and bobbins for? And the machine listed for $1000.00 with no picture, that ad really takes the cake.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...784979147.html - a 99 in not great condition.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...785016869.html - OK, it must be the chair that made it so expensive!!

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lgb...781256202.html - Wow.. a "custom" table!!! LOL

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...789375716.html - Too bad he couldn't keep it a little longer...he could ask much more!!

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/ant...789014456.html - Don't think so!

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv...755852022.html - One of the first Singers - 1920!! LOL Plus, what's a "knee arm control"??? New one to me!!

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...788490716.html - this cabinet has that vintage patina!!

I was just reading some of these to my husband...he wants me to list a couple of my machines...he said " There are bound to be a fool that would pay these prices." I better make sure to inventory my machines...good thing is that he doesn't know where the 221 is located, or that the cabinet that holds my embroidery machine actually has a machine in it.
Thanks Charlee...these gave me a very much needed laugh...ROFL...

Here's a model 15 "Red Eye" (Actually, they are open to offers, might need to try to rescue it and turn it into a hand crank. Any idea of what to offer? http://rochester.craigslist.org/atq/2732838452.html

And for $100 - take your pick a wooden ironing board (maybe I shouldn't have sold mine at my yard sale!) He has had this listed and relisted for more than one year!

or
or you could have a Davis treadle

or a New Home for $40

(who wouldn't rather have the old ironing board?)

MisDixie 01-09-2012 05:21 PM

I have the same machine, new one today. LOL Wouldn't sell mine for any price, but I sure wouldn't pay that for one!

I bought my DS's last fall for $5. Actually, it was a two for $10 deal, I kept the 128 and she got the 66 - in the same exact cabinet.

I just got a New Home, if I could hide the Davis for a bit, I'd be on it! Not sure were I'd put it, but I'm really loving the treadles and hand cranks. If some one wants it and is planning a trip to upstate NY, let me know! I'm on the look out for a really nice looking hand crank, if and one knows of one let me know. I've given up on eBay.

Quilt Mom 01-09-2012 06:58 PM

The one that caught my eye was from the 70's! Let me see... if that is an antique, what am I!!! LOL!

Thanks for the laughs!

RonieM 01-10-2012 12:18 PM

OMG - I have been laughing so hard I thought I would pee my pants!! It is amazing what people think these machines should go for. They are clueless - but entertaining! LOL

Fabb 01-10-2012 12:26 PM

Well maybe the Chicago antique dealer was a bit pricey but I *heart* those #42 cabinets. I've only ever seen one for sale in my neck of the woods.

That cabinet needs about $40 worth of work at least....so, I'd say $35 is a good offer. Especially since we don't know what's in the cabinet...like buying a pig in a poke! LOL

Ok Girls and Guys...don't all jump on this one at the same time....we might scare the seller!!

http://bend.craigslist.org/atq/2793240701.html

Very old antique sewing machine.
It looks older than my dad who has thirty grankids.
Will make a great display peice or conversation starter.
Won't sew anything.

I hadn't noticed that they were the same machine, I just noticed the ridiculous price both sellers wanted. There's also an ad (not listed here) where the guy is trying to sell a Minnesaot A plus other things to provide Christmas for his child. A reasonable request, if true, but the latest date on that ad is yesterday's. I think it's a scam!
