The thing is, that's not the going rate here. Starting high and lowering your price ($5 at a time in the case of the others that are over priced) limits who you can sell to. A 221 won't sell for $500 here, even a Centennial in very good shape is hard to sell at $300, or $250. Even for a black 301 with all of those accessories, $150 is a hard sell. I think these people are a victim of eBay searches. :( The worst part is, some of the people asking a ton for the machines will "give up" and dump the machines when they figure out that they're not worth what they think they should be.

A Sewing Machine that has a built in cabinet? Really?

I would have expected a built in cabinet to be much smaller.....

I have this HC Singer and paid only $40 for it. I wonder where he got the price from. In his dreams.....

I think I developed ADD just looking at the ad. Couldn't read past the first line, had to walk away. I paid $70 for one that's 10 years newer, and it came with an original HC and a motor kit...

Simply the most outrageous, funniest listing I have ever seen!! Thanks for posting Steve :D

Perhaps we need a rating system for these ads.
I know someone is going to come up with something better...

Dumb (1)
Stupid (2)
Unique (3)
Outer space (4)
I don't know but we do need a system of course...
Anyway... that... one... is... a... 10... whatever... it... is...

grant15clone 07-13-2013 05:35 AM

I started to read that ad but had to stop. It was going to give me a seizure.
I like your grading system Miriam. Who rates it? The person that posts the ad here or the people that see it here?

Perhaps "9" should be "They are smoking the really good stuff and not sharing it either." :D

We should get a system going and then we should rate the ad... there needs to be a number for 'lame'

Give "lame" the negative numbers: -1 for trending lame, -2 for definitely lame, -3 for lame + stupid

LOLz!

Nice puddle. That cabinet would probably fold up like a wet taco of you tried to move it.

pretty sad machine - love the wet taco thought...

Monroe 07-13-2013 03:56 PM

How Awful!

manicmike 07-13-2013 04:23 PM

The cabinet's probably done for but you could save the machine and treadle and possibly the drawers. $20 is pretty good value. It even seems to have its slide plate.
Someone could take advantage of bad parenting and save this poor thing.

grant15clone 07-13-2013 07:30 PM

Looks a bit too far gone even to me, except for the irons to be honest. MAYBE the drawers.
~G~

mlmack 07-13-2013 09:38 PM

You'd probably have to go through a 55-gallon drum of Tri-Flow oil to bring that machine back from the dead.

oneday 07-14-2013 03:28 PM

LOLOL.. I'd be all over that , The bulk of the machines I buy, don't look that good, two weeks it would look like new,

understand when a cabinet/machine looks like that it's untouched, meaning a very easy repair job. Your not cleaning off 80 yrs worth of someone else's band aid refinshing

"I have a really great travel case for a typical home sewing machine. It also comes with a free broken sewing machine!

Maybe your sewing machine needs a part or two, use this machine as a donor.

Want to try your hand at home sewing machine repair? Why not learn the ins-and-outs on this broken machine?

Sick of over priced tattoo shops? Build your own kitchen-chic tattoo gun! (ink not included).

The motor still works and is functional, you just can't attach one piece of fabric to another via thread with this machine in it's current condition. The spool holder is snapped off, and the machine was further "messed up" when I tried to take it apart myself. Should be repairable by a professional, or someone who knows what the eff they are doing.

Comes free with the case! $15! Or I will trade for a male guinea pig (mine needs a friend!) Can deliver in Edmonton or Sherwood Park."

hhhmmmm creative writer for sure and I laughed, too... I want to see a picture.

I had to reply to that one....

"Lovely machine, but you may want to consider rewording the ad. A "featherweight" is one of two specific models of Singer sewing machines (221 and 222)
The 15-91 is CERTAINLY not a featherweight.
Laws regarding false advertising can be rough."
