While talking about my new treadle machine I told her I only had one problem with it "there is no back stitch". She kind of laughed and we went on talking. Then all of a sudden she said "I remember, I remember!" "You remember what mom?" Well she remembered how they did a backstich. "Just raise the presser foot and guide the material back & forth". Daaaaa guess that makes sense but I hadn't thought about it.

Everyone have a safe and Happy Holiday!

:) I had a lady tell me that she remembered backstitching by stopping the machine, turning the fabric, and stitching a few stitches...

Thats what I did too. Got to be so use to it that when I got my first electric machine I kept turing the fabric. LOL Had forgotten all about turning to backstich. Thanks for the reminder and the laugh.

TXJan has a new home cabinet that has a spindle on the cabinet top one the back of the cabinet top near the rear of the machine head. Does anyone know what the purpose of this spindle is. Maybe I can get her to post a pic tomorrow

My coffin top singer treadle cabinet has a spindle where I think you are talking about. I don't really know either what purpose it serves.

I found this, with directions how to take the head out.

I have the flat and Phillips screwdrivers. Someone said big pillows, ziplock bags - anything else?

I am still worrying about the fact that I think it should be a coffin top. Will I be able to fit the cabinet, head and coffin top along with my sister?

So, did you get this machine? Hope it was a fruitful trip and there was room for your sister on the way back! Was this in Santa Rosa by any chance? I am curious if this is the machine I went and took a look at!

I had my tonsils and adenoids out when I was 19, that was a horrible experience. I hear its easier for the younger kids as far as after surgery pain. Wilbur will be in my prayers for a good outcome and speedy recovery.

My Grandson was eating Doritos the next day much to his mothers dismay but he did just fine. He will be fine.

The purpose of the spindle is for holding the machine when its tipped back to oil the bottom of the machine.
