Bennett, if you are up to restoring the cabinet, that would be a very nice machine to have! I'd be willing to bet you could get if for much less too, because of the condition it is in!

Looking back, I doubt it if was really her treadle. Grandma didn't have much of her own. I bet it came with Uncle Fred when she married him. My Grandfather died when my Dad was a small child. Grandma was stuck in Arkansas with a small child and a baby and no job available. She sold all she owned, barely bought train tickets and moved in with her FIL & Aunt Bertha. Grandma got a job teaching a good ways away. She boarded out by the month and would come home to see her babies. Then she had to go back to work. Eventually she got a place in town where she taught & they could all be together. Then when Dad was in his 20s she married my Grandfather's brother, Uncle Fred. Then she taught in the one room school down the road. I believe she married Fred so he would have someone to take care of him and keep the neighbors from talking. I guess that's how things were in the 1930s. Yes she was very wonderful.

Jan I have cleaned several nasty looking machines using Billy's tute. Most of the machines came out beautifully, but my Davis Vertical Feed machine lost most of what was left of her decals! That was the last time I tried to use Goop or GoJo non-pumice! The decals were gone before I realized it! I now just do the sewing machine oil, but as you all know that does not take the gunk off like a good cleaner will. I also tried using Dawn dishwashing soap, and that didn't really clean the machines like I'd like. I do use Blue Magic 12a TR-3 resin glaze with really good results, but that takes a ton of elbow grease! Anyway, I am becoming like a lot of the collectors that believe it is best to leave well enough alone, but this new Minnesota H that DH brought home looks horrible right now. It is the perfect machine to try another approach on - nothing to loose! I will send you an PM if I get in trouble!

Nancy, I was with 3 other people going to S.F. and back and didn't see the machine on CL until after I'd arrived home. A generic foot would not be an issue at all. In fact, you probably have one that would work. Hope you get it. It sounds like a great cause.

I recently picked up an ancient Singer treadle frame, the cast iron part, and a newer ( I suspect Chinese made ) wooden treadle top at the local sewing machine shop. The cast iron is very dirty and it's wheels are rusted tight. I'm going to put each wheel in a small can of oil to soak then when the weather warms up I'm going to put the two together.
As of yet I have not decided which machine to put in it. I'm thinking of Mr. Lucky. He is a Singer 66-16 that came to me motorized but with a large spoked hand wheel. I switched out the hand wheel for a smaller solid one and he runs much better, but for treadle use I can put the big one back on very easily.

Or, perhaps I'll put my Singer 9W-7 in it while I'm working on repairing it's original base and top.

To many choices ...... I need some Excedrin.

Yes, It is a Standard Rotary, just like mine. It looks like it needs a good spa to pretty her up!

Nancy, The Pfaff's treadle is gorgeous, and I love the chrysanthemum decals that are on it. Very lovely machine!

Yesterday, I spent three hours working in my front yard preparing my bed for mulch. We need rain badly. I think we are in for an extremely dry spring. I planning on adding more mulch to the beds to help them stay moist longer after watering them. I could work another day, but I'm tired from yesterdays work. I have that old Eldredge in the garage that needs cleaning. So, I may spend the day cleaning her up while sitting out on my patio deck since it's another beautiful warm, sunny day. Too many projects and not enough time in the day.
