I take my 28K camping with us...that or my FW... I've said before that I'm not big on the great outdoors, so it suits me fine to stay at the camper and sew! :)

I got excited over a box of cams at SA today and bought a Montgomery Ward J1561 machine - probably from the late 70s. It doesn't have a bobbin case, but the second one I tried from other machines fits. I plugged in the machine and it won't sew. It has a switch for 'electronic' or 'normal'. Can I take the bottom off and take this machine apart myself or am I in over my head? It's a heavy well made machine - made in Japan by Juki - so far that's all I know. [ATTACH=CONFIG]323662[/ATTACH]

Trish that sounds wonderful, but my DH would not like it if I was 'gone' all day like that - most of the time anyway! I bet you get a lot done with no regular household duties waiting or distracting you. My cargo unit is pretty close to the garage where DH spends a lot of time on wood projects so we still feel we are sorta together - at least in the same vicinity! The best part of being out of the house is I don't get side tracked with a cleaning project! Your situation would even be better for being more productive!

You need to remove the throat plate and put it back making sure that the position finger is in the notch of the position plate under the machine. Here is a copy of a 301 manual. Print out pages 12 through 15 - or better yet print out the whole manual! There are graphics that show you how the position finger needs to be, along with graphics of how the bobbin should be inserted and which way it needs to turn when inserted correctly. http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_...ine-manual.pdf Good luck, let us know if you get your 301 up and running as I am sure either Candace or Cathy could help you more than I can! Nancy my room is only about 75 feet from the house and his shop is about another 50 feet. Also have a chicken coop not too far and I can hear the rooster crow and the hens cackle. Or brag about laying an egg. So we are not too far apart during the day. I try to get what housework done in the mornings and sew in the afternoon now that I don't need a fire in the stove.

Wow, a building just for sewing/crafting! I'd be in heaven. I am lucky enough to have nearly the entire upstairs. Now, if I could just get it arranged the way I want it. I keep moving things around, some day I'll get it done.
