Hi Cathy,
Welcome back! I hope you are doing well, and that life has settled down a bit. You take care!
I will see you at the TOGA, on Saturday Sept 8.

Nancy,

I have no idea about Davis machines other than they are some pretty good machines. It's Jon that's the Davis aficionado.

Been traveling and just not spending much time sewing or on machines. I am trying to get my domestic in a parlor cabinet going to do some of the TOBE blocks on a different machine. I bought some shoe laces to try and use as a belt. Thinking that will sew the end with floss but appears like when I make the initial hole it really weakens the leather that is not so thick. How have others secured the ends of the leather shoe lace belts?

The other thing I notice is that the laces are very stretchy. Maybe I should opt for the aquarium tubing but was trying not to buy anything for it.

I am going to have to do some research on this machine. Who knows about the Bruce SMC? The machine is in great shape - nice decals - a little bubbling. Yes, Monica I am only going to use Sewing Machine Oil to clean this one! It is interesting as it has a lever like the foot release lever to release some pressure on the foot. This second lever is right above the foot release lever. I have never seen this on any of my other vintage/antique machines.

Candace, I will let you know how much I like using the 2-tone 301 after tonight when I take that machine to Strip Club!

Nancy

I would think that the Bruce Sewing Machine Co. of Springfield was a sewing machine sales company... Davis was only made by Davis...and yours about 1918. :) Davis moved to Dayton about 1890.

The bootlaces I've been using have not been stretchy at all...and I just use the staple from the old belt to connect the ends....the ones I get are square, and have a smooth side and an suede side...I punch the hole (I use my machine needle to push thru, and then enlarge it if need be with an awl) from the smooth to the suede, and never side to side (or suede to suede)...

I'm not sure that's any help to you Lisa... :(

Nancy, I have a machine just like your Davis. Has the same writing and the two levers like yours. The number on mine is 2751431.

Charlee, Thanks, mine are square and smooth with suede finish. I will give it a try. I don't have the staple for this one but could probably find one on an old belt around here. Let me try it and see.

Trish, does your Davis also say Bruce Sewing Machine Company, Springfield, Illinois?

Charlee I also thought Davis made their own machines and as far as I know/knew they did not badge machines. I thought the Davis New Vertical Feed was manuafactured in Dayton? This machine kinda throws me as it says Bruce SMC! Maybe even back then they were out sourcing LOL! Anyway, JON where are you! Why does Trish's and my machine say "Bruce SMC" and what years are our machines?

Trish's machine 2751431
My machine 3727163

Sorry Joe, I thought you were the Davis guru!

Nancy
