Melinda, did you know that the bobbins for your 230 are the same bobbins that the 130, 260, 360, 1222 all use? At least Pfaff kept the same bobbin for their machines! So far my original 130 and 1222e bobbins, which are exactly the same bobbin, work on all my other vintage Pfaffs. The only ones they don't work with are my computerized embroidery - modern - machine and my Grand Quilter. I am not sure about the treadle? I will have to check that out.

Ok Grant, I just pulled out my two wheels. I hadn't paid attention, but they both say which machines they work with! My 260 wheel says, "260, 360, and 368!" My 230 wheel says "230, 332, and 338!" Well, I guess we don't have to do any research. Just READ the wheels! Hehehehehehe

Darn, now I want that 332 that is for sale here on our Craigslist! Someone else needs to get that machine! Anamaria, Laura? I think Candace has one already!

Oh and Grant, I love the looks of the black 230. It looks very similar to my black 130!

I got a Pfaff 130 locally last week, and was impressed. However, it is missing the bobbin winder. So I took my annual bonus and bought one from Zeus Machines this week. If you haven't seen his stuff, it is amazing. I will leave it set up for leather, with #93 thread and a double needle.
Does anyone use one just for leather/tarp/sails?

Miriam, it would be really neat if we got several of those little letters from the service departments! Nice little tid bits of information you won't find in your manuals! I think most people realize each machine is different. That they should adjust for each machine, needle being used, thread being used!

I read your message about the Kenmores. I don't have any experience with vintage Kenmores, but I imagine they are very good machines. Its funny that you have ended up with a bunch of them! Good luck finding a manual!

I'll do that. I just confirmed that it fits the standard Singer treadle top (with possibly some judicious trimming of the opening) and hinge locations so I may just use one of those that I have around and then only have to work on getting it located properly relative to the flywheel.

Nancy, I had a feeling that was the case. Funny though, they don't list the 299 on either one. THAT might be the difference between the machine model numbers along with features on identical looking machines. Different cam stack needs a different stitch wheel is what I'm guessing. I bet that the cam stack is interchangable between the machines listed together. If that is the case then the mystery might be one step closer to being solved. I saw someone was selling another 299 with the wheel. I hope to contact them and ask what the numbers are on it. I had the envelope it came with for my 299 but I think I remember that the 230 was listed but the 299 was not. Hmmmm. Now I want to know what that one says. ~G~

I have my mother's 130. She used that machine for everything from fancy dresses to covering furniture. I know she made leather gloves, chaps also, and who knows what else she did with that 130. It was used almost every day for 51 years! She wouldn't use any other machine even when I bought her a more 'modern' Pfaff! She went back to the 130! I know those 130's were used to make sails! I haven't tried using it for leather. I have two 31-20's that I will use for tack (horse stuff) repair. But, I don't think you can hurt that 130 - that is one tough machine. Mom only had her 130 serviced once in 51 years - and that was because I shamed her into it! The service guy told her to take it home and use it - that that machine was like a great old friend - just keep on using it!

I had used my granny's 201-2 for leather in the past, but it just couldn't handle heavy stuff due to the piddly .6amp motor. The one I order has a 1.5 amp motor, and the one I played with last week was 1.3 amp. Nothing like horsepower- or in this case, Pfaff power!
