Great sewing Christmas here. Daughter picking up the 201 decided to hold it for a Christmas present for me, and I got it finally. It is a centennial model with a little pinrash, but it hand turns easily. No time to play yet, what with my kids in for the holiday and my baby brother and family coming in today. My husband also surprised me with a 227M. It was frozen up tight, no throat plate, but a little oil (I couldn't help myself but to try) and it freed right up. Haven't threaded it yet, but the action seems very smooth. Any info out there would be helpful. No manual, or free one I can find anyway. My brother's daughter is 10, and her Christmas present is one of our mama's sewing machines, and a sewing lesson from her Aunt Melinda. We are going to make a tote bag and learn about the machine, and send it home to Maryland with her. I am excited about it. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas or holiday of your choice, and the New Year brings us all something good.

What a great gift to your niece, Melinda. I'm thinking that is what I want to do for my great granddaughter when she gets a little older.....if I can get her to slow down just a little. She is a livewire at 3. Go, go going all the time. I have a few machines that will be perfect for her and I know when she comes to visit me this summer she will want to tinker with my machines. The hand crank I got this past month may be perfect for her.

Melinda I agree with Jean, giving your niece a sewing machine was a great idea! It almost seems to me that sewing is making a comeback. Maybe because quilting has gotten extremely popular! Anyway, 10 is a great age - they still want to learn something new - are still open to new ideas . . . . and they haven't got caught up in the boyfriends, friends, malls, shopping, and 'I' phones/'I' pads completely! It seems all teenagers want to do is text!

Cathy, Mizkaki, I am sorry I missed the TOGA you had right before Christmas. The weekend before Christmas is always crazy for me! I hope I can come to the next TOGA!

I know you said you had some needles for my Jones Family CS HC! I will probably get some of your needles too, but I went ahead and ordered some since I was ordering the long bobbins - both from the same outfit! I haven't been able to really get in and clean up my Jones yet. I am excited to get the bobbins and needles so I can see how it sews!

Can anyone date a Jones machine? Or do any of you have a Jones that you know the year it was made so I can do a comparison of your serial number with my Jones' serial numbers?

Thanks Nancy. I went downstairs yesterday to see if I could quilt. (I have had a quilt on the frame working on it for quite awhile) I could make the stitches but couldn't pull the needle through. I have a pair of small pliers that I've used before I found finger cots. But now I still don't have the strength to pull the needle through. I'm scheduled for a month of physical therapy and I'm making progress. It's amazing how much muscle you lose when you can't move your arm for 6 weeks.

I think I will be able to sew at my machine if I can get someone to lift it up on my desk. This arm breaking accident happened just a couple of days after we got back from the summer cabin and I hadn't gotten things set back up yet. I'm so happy to do anything! Even doing dishes makes me feel good.... go figure.

I bet a lot of us can relate! I have never broken an arm (knock on wood), but I have broken a hip and femur - from 2 different horse accidents. I know how hard it is to get back to normal! Hang in there. You start with little things - dishes count!
