Well, now, I haven't tried that yet. I do have the manual for it and will look there to see if it mentions how to sew in reverse.

Well, the parts arrived, and I discovered I'd ordered the wrong belt. I had ordered a motor belt, not a timing belt. Which is okay because now I have a spare in case the old one breaks. The timing belt itself is in pretty good shape considering, however I have a feeling it may have been replaced at one point because that top gear had also been replaced. Part of the older gear was still inside the machine!

I uploaded the pic to the other topic, however the link to the photo is:

The machine sews really nice, although it has no reverse lever. One has to turn the fabric around to sew backwards.
The cabinet it's in has a lever you push with your knee to activate the foot pedal which hangs on the inside of the cabinet. It also does not have a thread cutter.

Pat,
The stitch length knob IS the reverse button. Push it in to go backwards. Almost every Singer and other machine made in from the 60s up till they started with the plastic clam shell bodies use that design.
The 413s are pretty light so when you push the reverse button it might scoot away from you. I have to hold the bobbin winder knob with my index finger as I push the reverse button with my thumb to prevent that.

Not my 413! It's firmly installed in a cabinet! I did find out about the reverse stitching (looked in the manual before trying it). Now I have to solve the problem about it skipping stitches. Sews single fabrics fine, but when sewing two fabrics together, it skips. I think it's either a tension problem, or possibly my needle needs changing. Will try that next.

I started a thread about machines not sewing a while ago - if you learn new stuff feel free to post on there: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...g-t197579.html

Thanks for posting your 'why is my sewing machine not stitching???', Miriam. I have bookmarked it..... good information to know.

Jenn ... so sorry to hear of your loss. All the time spent cleaning out your brother's stuff will be good memories in the days to come. It's so hard to say goodbye to a special brother. Mine left me 10 years ago but I still miss him everyday. My prayers go out to you and your family.

I've been vacant from QB for awhile..... been so busy trying to get my life back to normal since breaking my arm back in November..... there were so many things I needed to do but couldn't for several months. Now, I'm nearly caught up. I'm glad to say the arm is doing very well.... I'm back to sewing and will soon start working on the machines I brought back from the cabin 2 days before my accident. But....

It's really good to see all the projects you are all working on.... inspiring, to say the least. The miracles you do with those machines, Steve. WoW!! I haven't used my dremel on the chrome details on my machines but you've got me thinking that I should try it.

Hopefully, I can stay caught up a little better now that things are getting done..... slowly I just love hearing and seeing posts from my QB friends.

Grant15clone,
You've done a lovely job with your Pfaff, it looks like a different machine now that its all clean and shiny.
You'll really enjoy sewing with this one. I really like my Pfaff 60 treadle.

Grant you have done an awesome job on that Pfaff 130! I love my 130, but then I learned how to sew on my machine when the 130 was my Mother's. Did you know that there is an attachment to change the 130 into a machine that does decorative stitches? This attachment goes on the back side where the light is attached now. Pretty cool - I have been looking for this gizmo, but so far I have only seen the thing attached in a photo of a 130!

Jennb, your family is blessed to have you as their rock of strength right now. In time, you too will need some down time to just dwell on the joy your brother brought into your lives. Cherish those memories and then begin those memory quilts, of which you spoke and they will bring you double joy as you make them and remember the wonderful life he led and the happiness he had spending time doing those things that brought him so much pleasure.

My prayers include you and your family and all those who were lucky enough to know your brother and are feeling his loss.
Donna
