I wouldn't say your are daft but you do know the paint that came on the machine is much better than any you could put on it now. Glenn has a very nice tutorial here on how to restore the paint on the old sewing machines. We tried it at home and it works real nice.

I didnt think you could fix this pain job, the Commodore has rusted through areas, but the Singer is another story. She is rusted and Flaking?! I was always told (for cars) that that was a bad paint job. Plus her rust is throughout. And its sad because I kinda like her ensemble. She has Egyptian-like decals that are very pretty.

I have 2 Singer 301 machines with white spots in the finish where there was mold, mildew or musty stuff. Any ideas how to help it? The machines are clean and work fine mechanically now - they just don't look so hot.

Isn't the white on 301s and FWs aluminum rot? I don't think there is much you can do except clean it up and touch it up. Mine don't have it, but I think Florida machines sometimes do.

If they are black machines the shellac treatment as mentioned in my tut will sometimes take them out if it just a cloudy spot. You can also try just a rag and linseed oil. As Grant said sometimes car wax will do the trick.

These are the mocha color with white spots - they don't show up on pictures... It looks to be in the paint

Miriam if it is in the paint then you can't take the spot out unless you rub it out with a little white rubbing compound and if it is deep into the paint leave it alone or you will be refinishing these spots and will need matching paint.

Thanks Glenn - I'll leave it alone then - it just looks like paint problems rather than rot
