I can take only so much pressure. He lowered his price again and I succumbed.

The cabinet and bench are not in good shape. Refinishing veneer.

I'm not terribly fond of refinishing furniture these days either. At least it isn't painted. It really doesn't look that bad in the pictures.
Nice 301.

that looks awesome!

Hey, Rodney. I'm not sure if I should use the stripper (the LIQUID stripper) or just start sanding. I like the current mahogany color with the black trim. I'm thinking I'll do the same or maybe go with a light gold in high lacquer gloss with black satin trim.

And I need a new camera. It really put up a fight today and refused to focus.

Use the stripper. It's far too easy to sand thru the veneers. If there's a furniture refinisher in the area you might see what they charge to strip it for you. Stripping the old finish off is the worst part of the job to me. It's the main reason I don't refinish a lot of furniture anymore.

Good advice. It could be a beautiful piece. I just need the time and patience. I'm also going to switch out the vinyl upholstery on the bench for leather. Or maybe a really cool fabric if I can find one. Something vintage, geometric design...

I just bought a Brothers sewing machine for $5.oo at a garage sale and cannot find any information as to age and I don't have a manual or accessories. Can you help. Thanks

SteveH 07-18-2014 01:34 PM

Jo,

Brother made dozens of models over the course of decades of production....

If you can post a picture, we can probably help.
Or if you can find a model number (NOT on the motor) that might help

jothesewer2 07-18-2014 05:26 PM

Would this be the the number J31112095 60HZ 273C these numbers are on the back nothing says model or serial number, XL2022 was on the front.
