The fact that one of them refers to the power (60Hz, the oscillation frequency of U.S. AC) hints at it being a motor spec.

Jo, is this your machine?

Thanks

I'm really weak.

Was at a thrift store yesterday. 4 machines for sale (including a beautiful Universal 15-90 clone that I resisted; seriously, the thing looked brand new except for some dust). I bought 2 machines. Arrggghh! The worst part is that this one is a borderline case: missing a couple of parts, not sure if it runs (because one of the missing parts is the power cord and I can't test it at the store), has a few dings but looks OK, and I don't need another zig-zag! But I do have a small Singer collection with no 401A ... until yesterday:

No power cord, 2 missing spool pins, the cam assembly door is missing. I plugged it in with the 301 (3-prong input) cord and it runs but it's slow. Keep and fix it or part it out?

(I uploaded the smallest versions of these pictures. Why are they so large? And why the last picture -- I deleted that one before posting the message...)

Is the ability to edit comments time-sensitive? I'd like to re-post the above with smaller pictures. Not sure what happened. Anyway, here's the other machine I purchased:

that looks showroom fresh!

It has a couple of very small scratches and dings on the bed but it's in great shape. I like the funky looks of the Morse zig-zags. So many cool details and a powerful motor, too.

I've been AWOL hauling heavy stuff...
Actually that was just a stop at Elephant Rock Park on the way home from Ray White's class where everyone was hauling heavy stuff. Cathy (Mizkaki) was there. I learned a thing or two & got a machine or two working. Cathy is a lot of fun. She needs to teach her own classes. We are so honored that she shows up on QB. She deserves a lot more respect than she is getting here.
