What I've found is that the darker look of the old cabinets is from the finish darkening over the years. If you remove the finish, you'll find the original stain is more natural in color

I won't quote the photos again but wow!! Now I'm really keen on renewing the veneer. You really made your cabinet look like new again!

Anyone know what model of Singer this is? Never seen one like this before.

My friend gave me a new toy last week. Its the same model as yours. Once I learned how to thread it, I was able to sew some string blocks; perfect stitches too.:D It's a 1917 White Rotary, I'm so happy that its all mine. I hope to find a cabinet for it, want to remove the motor and treadle it. The #2 picture shows the pile of compacted lint I found under the feed dogs and in the bobbin area. I'm glad it was stored inside someone's house, no rust; it just needed to be oiled. The wiring is in very good condition too.

Is it solid oak, or veneer?

How did you strip it? Was it a shellac finish originally?
