Just found this Japanese 15 clone today... at a garage sale on the way home from the gym! It's a Wizard, a green one! If anyone knows anything about it, please spill... On the underside of the body it's got "JC25" embossed in the metal, and then nearby there is a hand-painted number "JA14" and then stamped into the metal it says "013296". Three number notations. What does it all mean?
It moves great. I ran it for a few seconds and got the faint odor of burning, so I won't try that again until I've cleaned it well and re-oiled and packed the grease ports with vaseline. It had an old tape stuck on it as a fabric guide, which left a nasty sticky residue when I removed it. What is the best way to get that off-- sewing machine oil? This is Alba, named after the first owner: |

I just bought her today at a yard sale. According to Singer's website, she is a Class 127, born December 8, 1925 in Elizabeth, NJ. She's not in the best shape right now, but will clean her up when I get the right materials.

Here are pictures of my Little Vesta which I hope you all like. The doll gives some idea of the scale. If you are interested you can see the machine on Youtube - the title is "How to thread a Little Vesta". Over the past month or so my husband and I have put three videos onto Youtube. I am on a mission to show people how to use old machines. The other two videos show the Singer hand machine that I learnt to sew on. Apart from ten traumatic minutes in a needlework class at school in 1967 or 8, I have never used an electric machine, and it's far too late to start now!
The wooden base of the machine is just over 16 inches wide, the doll is 20 inches tall |
i found this machine today . i believe it started out a treadle. it is dull black , has centinal plate on it , shuttle bobbin, the hand wheel is shiny black, number on base is AK854818 . there a number stamped under bed of machine 54564. it is electric , motor looks older than my 1955 fw . it is i think a singer. forgot how to load pic

My first machine is a National Sewing Machine Company Vibrating Shuttle treadle. The "Damascus" name was manufactured for Montgomery Ward. The serial number is 3209025. I don't know exactly in which year it was made. There is no list for NSMCo machines like there is for Singer. I'm guessing in the 1920s.
My second machine is a Singer 128K Hand Crank, manufactured in Scotland on Feb 2, 1927, serial number Y4467698. My third machine is a Singer 221 Featherweight, manufactured in Elizabeth, NJ on January 24, 1940, serial number AF741157 National Sewing Machine Company Singer 128K Hand Crank Featherweight |

Two more machines that I use for quilting. Top photo is Singer 15-90 with darning foot on. I use that machine for free motion quilting; so, the darning foot is always on and the feed dogs dropped. Second photo is Singer 201K-3 that came with motor that I removed. I use this machine for sewing clothes and straight stitch quilting.

My first is a Genie 354 (serial number 72042228) I know she was made in France in the early to mid-'70's but can't find any official data as to manufacture (Singer site doesn't recognize anything this new without a letter in front of the number and Genie doesn't have a letter, anywhere). She was a gift from sister for my 16th birthday after she'd taught me to sew that previous summer. She's been through a dozen moves since I first left home for college and has only been overhauled once. Just keeps on keeping on.
My more recent acquisition is (I think) a 66 from Elizabeth NJ Aug 1915, G4138333. Had her cleaned and checked out by Bob my local (sort of) repair man and she works ;-). I need to find the retaining spring for the bobbin plate. Right now it just slides right off so I'm afraid to do any sewing with her. Found her at an estate sale for so cheap I couldn't walk away without her. Isn't it wonderful that so many people are lovingly preserving these machines for future generations? Don't forget to use them! Nothing keeps them running and moving as well as actually using them. |

This is probably the *coolest* sewing machine I've ever seen! It's not mine; it belongs to my aunt, who bought it on eBay and had it shipped to me, so I could take it to my osmg. ThingOne will be pony-expressing back to her when he goes back home this week. In the meantime, I get to pet it, and lust after it, and...
It's a Morse Fotomatic IV/4400. (I've seen it called either.) It looks like a late 50's Buick dashboard to me, with all the chrome and levers and whatnot. This one is fantastically clean, quiet, just purrs right along, and it came with a box of a dozen or so feet, some bobbins, etc. The case is a little ratty, but the non-original plastic one it came in was absolutely beat. My osmg had this one knocking around in his parts pile, so he swapped them out. It's not pretty, but it's intact, and an original Morse case. Aunt Suzi will be thrilled. Now I want one! :-P Morse Fotomatic IV/4400 |
Sorry I put the wrong model number on the "201". It is actually a 15-91. Sorry about that.

It is in a nice cabinet and the cabinet was full of trim, zippers, attachments and thread. Works fine. But we currently have 5 treadles, including a 1861 Wilcox and Gibbs Treadle, 2 301s, 7 Featherweights, 2 201's, 2 Singer Salesmen (miniature cast iron hand cranks 1880s) machines, a few 99's, a couple of 66s, 2 128's, a few model 15's (including one with a coffin lid) a Dressmaker, Janome, 1970 Singer, Kenmore, and a Brothers. We are considering moving out and letting the machines take over. LOL.
