I use an electric Dremmel but I have it plugged into a sewing machine foot control which is plugged into a dimmer swithch - it goes plenty slow and the Dremmel was inexpensive.

Thank you, so much, for your offer. Think I need to buy armor for when those wire pieces go flying. Already have a face guard:) I am generally not one to disconnect. Not really mechanically inclined! When you disconnect the feed dogs, don't you then have to retime? Can you please share where you buy the buffing pads. The ones I purchased are fluffy and/or cotton. The ones you use look denser. Here is a pic of what I use. (yes that is a dime under the pedal, holding it at the slowest speed:o) The Corded Dremel plugs into the motor side of the block. I use either Mother's Mag Wheel Polish or Jeweler's Rouge. The wire brush is also made by Dremel. -Tip, notice that I put a small section of a drinking straw on the shaft of the wire brush and the buffing wheel. That helps a LOT. 100-year old lint and sticky stuff. The whole machine is coated in sticky orange stuff.
I had to use a hairdryer to soften the goo to get the faceplate off. |

Grant and SteveH, you inspire me. The drinking straw tip is wonderful. These machines I adore. Having folks like you make my hobby (cheaper than therapy) easier to enjoy.

Thank you HelenAnn and Annette. I never really left. I moved Superbowl weekend (in a Blizzard here in Chicago). I have been lurking and posting but not as much. I have been really busy working on machines. :) I do have an album of tips and tricks I use on my page that you may like too.
I just finished a 1902 Singer 27 with Sphinx decals that came out really nice. I can't wait to post the pictures of it here. I will after the owner picks it up. I can't risk spoiling the surprise for her. Most machines of that age have paint issues and only look good if you wipe them down with SMO, but not this one. Wow, Grant! The before and after photos are amazing. I bet the owner will be shocked. You are inspiring me to get to using the mother's wax I purchased some time ago.
