I have made an arrangement with my local butcher to get a section of pig side with skin on. (funny thing is he asked if I was learning how to tattoo, I said, "no, sewing.." he didn't quite have the guts to ask....

Oh.
My. Gosh. You are not even kidding, are you? Wow. Nifty machine - can you sew paper, etcetera with it? Would love to see it in action, perhaps minus the pigskin... ;-) |

I'm pretty keen on it Sharon, but it's missing its slide plate. My dear friend Amelia told me today she can probably find me one so I'll be giving it a workout some time soon.

Here are some pictures of my vintage machine. I don't know the story behind it other than my mom got it at estate sale when I was a kid. The couple had been friends with my grandparents. My mom had told me that it was in working order. A few years before she passed away, she found a leather belt for it. I'm not sure how to size it, since it's too long.

the process in general goes like this:
Wrap the belt around the track it is supposed to follow Take up the slack (not TOO tight) and mark both ends at the same location trim both ends punch(ice pick.awl, singer tool) a hole in each end CAREFULLY about 1/8" in from the end insert link staple (NOT a regular staple, my LSMG carries them) close staple put belt on machine begin cussing(working) |
