Mine was made to come apart - it is held together by a couple screws. It is not a real solid machine but it is a lot of fun.

Yep, this one too. it is the sub frame that is broken completely at the handwheel that ended it.

The seller will give a refund but also want to file a claim... ??? (ok...) with the shipper.

She was told must have 2" padding all around (this did she said)
Must not move (it didn't she said)

However, as a lesson for any who read this. DO NOT USE BUBBLE WRAP!!!!!

Really sorry Steve for having received your machine that way. We just about gave up shipping from anyone on ebay and elsewhere. We had one packed similar to this with only one piece of paper thrown in the box, nothing else. It was professionally packed by a UPS store. The machine and wood cover were totally trashed, just in little bitty pieces. Don't know how it got to my house without it falling out of the box. We took pics of all the damaged machines we got shipped to us, wish I could find that. One seller said we didn't pay much for it so what was the problem? Very interesting guy! So sad.

Oh my heart breaks when I see something like this happen. Guess that is why we were so afraid to buy a machine
from the other side of the country. Even if the seller does a good job of packing these shippers seem to throw things
enough to break metal too.

That is so sad. It is exactly why I don't want to ship your machine to you, even though I would definitely pack it better. Lately, it seems like even well packaged stuff is getting trashed. How do they(the shipping people) always know it's something breakable? Do they make wagers among themselves to see what it takes to break something?

Better news, A local friend took pity on me and will be giving me one from her collection

I plan to play with this as a hand crank challenge project.

Final note, if this had been packed with closed cell foam it would have been fine.

I want to know how you are going to fit a hand crank on that machine. I have two of them. The motor boss is off center. A spoked wheel will not fit the machine. You could attach a knob directly to the wheel or make an offset adapter for the HC then notch the hand wheel. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Sewing at a slower speed would be better for the machine.
