Quilt of Many Colors
So this is a quilt that I made for my daughter's family. I've posted it before. But now it was my 70th birthday last week and all my kids and grandkids made a party for me, and my daughter wrote a song using the tune to Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors. Here are the words:
In the last few years
Since our mom began to quilt
It’s only been a short while, that’s the truth
We received a gift, a quilt, from mama’s workshop
The colors and the form we all could choose
There were squares of many colors
And every piece was small
And nobody had a quilt
And now we have them, one and all
Momma sewed the squares together
Sewin' every piece with love
She made our quilts of many colors
That we are so proud of
Each quilt now tells a story
Of a Bubbe, mom, or friend
Who spent hours in her workshop
To her quilting she would tend
Each person who received one
Got good luck and happiness
She signs one of the little corners
And blesses it with a kiss
My quilt of many colors
That my momma made for me
Made from tiny squares
That she cuts accurately
Worth more than any money
We’re as lucky as can be
It’s my quilt of many colors
My momma made for me
See life is much like quilting
When you grow a family
You need different little patches
They start off all separately
Then you sew them all together
Connecting all of them with love
You make a quilt of many colors
That we are all part of
What makes a quilt so special
Besides the main designs
Is that deep embroidery
It’s often hard to see those lines
But they hold it all together
In their quiet symmetry
Each stitch is placed there for a reason
To create the harmony
See life is much like quilting
When you grow a family
Each patch is like a leaf
In our own family tree
Worth more than any money
We’re as lucky as can be
It’s my quilt of many colors
My momma made for me

I'm also having the "allergy eyes"...
Aw heck, no I'm not...it's misty eyed tears...no shame in it!
That's a lovely poem, made more endearing for you, as your daughter wrote it for you. What a great feeling to know your "kids" "get" how much you love them. Beautiful quilt, too..
Happy belated 70th Birthday!
Regards,
Kif
