I have an old Singer which I did dig out of the storage shed.
It has a rough finish like the Godzilla, But has a long spindle-like bobbin. I know my Dad bought it for my Mom in 1955 or 1956. It has a wooden mail-box shaped cover. Any ideas as to what I have?

Hi Guys,

I recently bought a singer 66 treadle machine from e-bay for £16.75. It is 75 years old and in full working order with a host of feet... but my is that treadle hard!

Hugs

Caroline

you may want to visit the vintage machine virtual area but don't ask me how to find it cause I don't know how to find something that isn't really there...
you may just need to clean and oil your treadle - it shouldn't be hard to treadle..

Hi JJ...

No.. what I meant that it is hard work to keep it going... the treadle is as smooth as silk.... maybe my poor old legs are not up to treadle sewing anymore!

Hugs

At the very bottom of the page it says "add this topic to a virtual section". If you click on it, it will list all the available virtual sections. Select the one for vintage sewing machines, and it will be added. Only the thread's author can do this.

Thanks for the guide...I have the #221 Featherweight, the 15-90, and have dibs on Mom's 401. I also have an old treadle machine in really rough condition.

Yes this is a nice reference to have. I have been playing around with them so much that I have most of them shoveled into my memory. Some one posted a photo of a 101 and I knew what it was right off.

I really need to get out of the house more......

Well, you can learn something everyday - I just discovered a little while ago that the 319 also has a thumb screw to lower the feed dogs! hoorey.... and I did a little bit of free motion on it - tada
I haven't checked out the 306 - it's out in the shop...
