Thank you! When you took the set screw for the cam out, did the cam get out of place? I loosened my screw to see if I could pull the center portion of the dial out, but it wouldn't budge. I couldn't get any part of it to pull out of place. It definitely has a lot of gunk and build up around it.

I was not able to pull the needle position knob until I pilled the screw completely out with needle nose pliers because it was still catching the metal rod. Mine pulled easily out. Next use 2 angled picks to pull the round plastic piece from the center. Then remove snap ring with snap ring pliers from the grove its in. The flat plus shaped spring should easily come out.
Then remove the stitch dial with the cam attached. And that part could be difficult. Mine was frozen to the metal shaft amd not moving freely. It was so attached to the metal rod it was turning the whole metal shaft. My stitch selector came out with the rod attached. I had to get the selector removed and jnstall the metal shaft with the notches vertical (its press fit) as the notches hold the white dot at the top. If the rod fits loose at all ad some loctite as suggested above.
I did not have any issues with the needle position cam getting out of place at all as mine slipped out and back in easily.
