I use my 201 to make large or wide buttonholes using the original black buttonholer. I also use it to mend coveralls and replace zippers in heavy duc jeans or jackets as it just powers through all the layers.

I use my 201 for everything but zig zag. Have a 401 and 500 for that.

I have a 1936 Singer 201 hand crank/treadle machine, uses class 66 bobbins. It's whisper quiet when I oil everywhere the machine needs it. Its a wonderful machine, its great for piecing quilts and grid quilting. I've also made a few blouses with my 201.
My grand daughters were piecing crumb quilt blocks the day this photo was taken. They preferred the control they got with the hand crank, the white fridge magnet is their seam guide.
