What do you all think of this machine? I saw it today at the Goodwill for $24.99. No power cord, no accessories, in a beat-up cabinet (I can't have any more cabinets!!!). It's not the prettiest machine, but it looks like it does several stitches other than straight. Sorry, no picture - it didn't interest me much at the time, but now I wonder...

Those are very nice machines. You will want to find some of the disks. You can build a simple frame for it - you just need a motor and foot control. If it has a Singer plug in you will need to find Singer cord etc.

It's a nice heavy duty swing-needle. Like Mariam says, you'll need the disks, especially the zig-zag. I believe I have multiples, so, I can send one if you can't find one. It's not my choice for sewing either straight stitch or swing-needle, but, if it were my only machine, it would be sufficient. For less than $30, it's a steal.

Edit: there may be others post about the odd 206 needle and odd bobbin and converting timing/and/or the bobbin case to accept 15 needles. To me that's overkill for a minor problem. 206 needles are available in the 12 and 14 sizes which accomodates most of my sewing. If I need a larger needle, I use a different machine.

OMG!!!! I've been wanting one of these machines because my mother had one. All of my clothes were made on one plus the household items she made. I would have bought it at any price and purchased the cords and attachment it needed. I have a 301A and a 99K, but REALLY want mom's 306W. We were fools to have sold it in1993 when she passed away.

I have one waiting in the wings for clean up work. I've been curious about the swing needle machines. Some people swear they are their absolute favorites. It takes an odd sized needle but it is still made so shouldn't be a huge issue. I love the look of the machine.

Hmm, sounds more interesting than I thought! I will have to research the swing-needle as I know nothing about them. Ron - thanks, I may take you up on your offer! I did see one of the flat disks on it, but don't know which one. May be a moot point by now, but I'll swing by after my GD goes home and see if it's still there.

I'm so aggravated by my elbow tendinitis! Can't do much of anything until the flare dies down a bit, but at least I can look at the machines!!

Linda, if you live within a couple hours of Richland, WA, I can pick it up and hold it for you...if it's still there. I don't mind!

It is still a good read and some of the info will apply to the 306. It isn't very hard to 'doctor' a bobbin case like Mike says somewhere in that thread.
