Default Singer 401A Estate Sale Purchase $18

After I purchased the Morse in a previous post, we went to an estate sale late on the same day and I saw this Singer 401A. They were selling it for $45 but this was the last day of the sale and late in the day so everything was 60% off so I got this lovely machine for $18. I already have a singer 401A but it is one of my favorite machines. This one came in a nice cabinet, with a chair and also had the box of accessories with feet and cams, a manual, and a buttonhole maker. I don't think the buttonhole maker belongs with this slant foot machine. It was amazingly clean so required very little cleaning. I did grease the gears as they looked dry and I gave it a good drink of oil. Now she just hums right along.

I just noticed that I failed to mention this machine needs a new bobbin winder tire. I think I have one of those somewhere in my collection of parts.

Great deal! I lucked into mine in a rigged case - no attachments and needed help which I got from many of the helpful and knowledgable members here. I paid $19.99. Enjoy!!

Your buttonholer should be just fine. It is a newer model than your machine but the buttonholers in the rosy pink cases are for slant machines. The buttonholer in the rectangular maroon case is also made for your machine and would match the age of your machine. Both buttonholers work the same way and make perfect buttonholes every time. I like them much better than the built in buttonholer on my Janome 6500 which won't handle large or thick buttons.

The accessories alone cost more than $18. You got a really nice deal. That's on my list also and a rocketeer.

    Awesome deal!

I think that might be the right buttonhole attachment for that machine. Seems like the ones in the black, red, or green cases were for the earlier black machines.

Excepting for whether they are for a slant bar or for a straight bar, Singer buttonhole attachments that take the cams are pretty much all identical once you take off the outer shell.
