Singer Genie Serial Number
Greetings. I just found a Singer Genie at a thrift shop for a whopping $5.50! It runs but needs some cleaning up. I am also trying to date the machines year of manufacture. The only number I see is on the bottom and is 62134249. This seems to bring up nothing on searching the internet. Any Ideas? Thanks.

I also have a Singer Genie (named Starlet here in Europe) and as far as I know, all Singer Starlet / Genie were manufactured in the French factory of Bonnière-sur-Seine in 1973-1974. Unfortunately the archives of the factory are lost so there is no way to date machines according to the serial number, unlike machines from other Singer factories in the world.
There are 2 sorts of Singer Starlet: the 353 series featuring the zigzag stitch and the blind stitch, the 354 series featuring the stretch stitch on top of the 353 features, both have the groovy flowery 70s style decor on the top front.
I have read that the Starlet / Genie was meant to be the successor of the Featherweight due to its light weight and portability with the pedal and cords being stored inside the case cover... But then that my just be French pride talking

Macybaby it is totally a fun machine!!! I have a hoot with it and according to my sewing shop lady it is a workhorse! (she said she once mended a rug with one!)
Mayer if you need a manual I have a pdf in English (b&w) and in French (colour but poorer quality)

I bought a Genie new back then. Not sure I would have repaired a rug with it, lol, but it did a pretty decent job with what I did throw at it. I gave it to my SIL after I got another machine. Wonder what she ever did with it - probably trashed it.
