Default Singer Model 66 Red Eye

I recently purchased a 1923 Model 66 which was in good but dirty condition. I have started the process of cleaning and polishing her up. It is missing a treadle belt and slide plate. I have been looking on line for a used plate in good condition and have not found it yet. I am new to the restoration process but have been an avid sewer all my life and learned on an old treadle machine. Any help in finding a slide plate would be appreciated. I did find the Singer site that sells new plates, but since the other parts had aged so much was hoping to find a used one. Some of the parts are off right now due to cleaning but I believe the only missing one is the slide plate, I have the needle plate.

Wow! It's looking very beautiful! I bet someone has a used slide plate here.

Other than finding one on eBay I don't know of anyone or any source for original slide plates. I just buy replacements from SEW-CLASSIC and use those. Belts can be had there or usually your LSMG.

Be careful with the cleaning and polishing, those decals were only covered with a thin coat of shellac. It doesn't take much to clean through it and ruin the decals. Don't ask me how I know this.
There are a number of tutorials here by forum members Skip and MUV that gives great info on cleaning and repairs of these great old machines.

Thanks Joe, I checked out the tutorials after my husband gave me a Featherweight at Christmas had great success cleaning it and now enjoy sewing on it. It is a bit sluggish on getting it going but then sews great. I've wanted a treadle for awhile and found this one on Craigslist. I love spending time polishing, cleaning and seeing them return to life. I know I could get hooked on this... I already want another one. LOL

Listen to Joe because he knows what he is talking about. Be real careful with cleaning the decals they are very easily ruined. We totally have silver decals on my husband's mother's old red eye treadle. It was so well preserved when we got it but we just didn't know enough about cleaning the machine.

Try an ebay search under "red eye slide plate".

I did a search on eBay for "Singer 66 slide plate", and several, new and used, came up. A 99 slide plate would work as well.

Thank you, I didn't know a 99 would also work.
