I had a similar one once (but no where near 31 inches of space under there) ...that one, you plugged it in, pressed the 'on' switch & stepped on the peddle. Just like most other foot pedal machines.

Now that is definitely a looooooong arm for sure! Certainly wouldn't have to do much scrunching of a quilt using that machine. I see similar machines once in a while on my local CL also and wonder who buys them especially at that price.
