I dragged this one home a while back. Double ugly case with some broken supports inside. A bit of rust, even on the bobbin, but with a bit of lubrication it is ready to work again. Made in Great Britain.

I like the drop in bobbin system in the 201, the closest I have come to the 301 bobbin case is a Featherweight. The 301 has the vertical set motor, but it has similar sets of cork screw gears and turning rods that should make it very smooth running. I don't think there were a US made aluminium 201, but you have loads of gear driven 201s.

The 301 motor and the potted motor are really not alike. The 301 motor has a gear and a sealed bearing at the top and drops out the bottom of the machine like the 401 and up series do. I own a 201-2, a FW and two 301s. Yes the bobbin case for a 301 and a FW are the same, but the bobbin hook /race assembly, while it looks the same it actually isn't and they don't interchange.
