Love this site! You are all great. I can't find a bobbin case to purchase but was told by a parts place to purchase a standard class 15 bobbin case and cut or grind the finger off. Will let you know if I am successful. Need to order one for the test.

Even with the finger off a 15 case isn't going to fit. It is a hair too big to go in the shuttle. There is also an opening on the Standard case where it is held in that is not on the 15 case. Sorry to be the bearer of not so good news.

Ok, on to the next step. This just makes life more interesting when trying to put everything together to make it stitch...that's the fun. Could you tell me if there is a maker printed on your bobbin case or attachments? Greist? That would help me in the search. After doing much research on the internet I have come to the conclusion mine was made in 1887 or 1888. I have put a list the Company's patents in order of how they were printed, starting with mine which is the earliest I know: Feb 5.84, July 6.86, Jany 18.87 (those are on my machine (Serial no. 58676). Now on to others I have collected) June 11.89, Feb 24.91, Nov 7.98, Dec 12.93, May 8.94, May 5, 96, May 26.96, Dec 28.97, Aug 24.98, Oct 17.99. These of course are in the 1800's. I don't have info after these dates.

Your machine is older than mine as my patent dates run from Jan 18.87 through May 26.96. The pictures look exactly like mine except mine has a spring belt. There are no markings on the bobbin case. All attachments were made by Greist.

I am overdue for a visit to a gentleman I know that has been selling and repairing sewing machines for over 60 years. He is 85 years old and still goes to work 6 days a week. Anyway, I will drop in on him to see if he can give me any info that I can pass along to you.

I enjoy the challenge of getting an old machine up and running but usually try to stick with ones that all the parts are there. You are much braver than I am.

I have just found out a Singer 115 moves the same as a Standard meaning it is identified by watching the motion of the hook. When you turn the hand wheel it travels all the way around in a circle. The bobbin case is what attracted me because is doesn't have a finger on it and looks more similar to the picture of the bobbin case of the Standard than any I have seen. Does anyone know if they are one and the same?

I stopped to see the gentleman I mentioned. He had a big box of assorted all class 15 bobbin cases that we went through. I never realized how many different class 15 cases there are, some without the finger and that have the opening on the top. However, they threaded differently, the thread came up through the tension in the back, the standard bobbin threads through from the front. Another thing that you will need is one that fits over the standard pin, not all pins are the same size. I tried 2 different ones that I have here and neither fit the standard pin.

He did say that your best bet would be if you can come up with an old machine for parts.
