I've started a quilt I'm calling my "All Machines" quilt. I intend on using every machine we have to assemble it.
So far I've got a bunch of 6.5" squares cut out and have assembled more 6.5" squares from 3.5" squares.
I'm using any and all denim scraps that I can beg, borrow, or steal from my wife. LOL

After the small squares were assembled I decided to try something. So I decorated some using the Singer 3810 and Alden ... I think:


I'm planning on putting a decorative pattern on each square. It will be interesting to do.

What a neat way to liven up denim. I'm going to do that for a denim quilt (bedcover really) so thanks for the idea.

I'm going to sew the blocks together. Right now it looks like 15 6" squares across X I don't know how many long yet.

What is a "rag quilt"?

OK, that looks interesting for one of the next ones. How do you do the fuzzies between the squares?
Or is that just the ends of the denim squares as it unravels?

You can clip the denim (or other fabric) so that it gets a bit ravely in wash. There are special spring scissors for this job. I happen to have a commercial fabric cutter with a special die that makes the squares pre-cut to ravel. I have done a lot of charity quilts using kids type flannel and all you do is use either a plain straight stitch to make an "x" in the square or a use a decorative stitch to sew the fabric sandwich (with batting or not) together and then sew all the squares together. Maybe that will be your next one.

I like your idea using the decorative stitches on the denim blocks. Definitely livens up the blocks. Also a good way to use up thread. I think I may do this on the next denim rag quilt I make. If you do make a rag quilt, be prepared to "wrastle" with it. They are heavy, heavy. I like mine because it is dog proof and when it is on the bed I can vacuum off the dog hair. I am thinking about making one for each of the dogs so they can have a quilt of their own. But I don't think they may want to give up sleeping on my bed. LOL

Caroline, you put the dogs' beds on top of your bed. My dogs pout when their bed covers are in the washer. I can't feel sorry for a pair of rescues who now call a double pillow topped Beautyrest Do Not Disturb mattress home. How quickly they become accustomed to some comfort in their lives!
