Default Tension unit question

Hi all, I was trying to be adventurous and disassemble my upper tension unit while watching a tutorial on it. When the person did it, the inner spring came out easily; mine didn't. I don't want to pull or yank on it for fear of damaging it.

How can I get it to come out???

thanks in advance

Renate

It probably has a small screw holding it from the inside. Open your faceplate and right on the inside around from
the tension unit will be a very small screw holding the tension unit and spring.

I did that, but the screw is in so tight neither my husband nor I could loosen it and it might be stripped.😟

But thank you for replying !

The small screw is usually only for the stud the entire assembly goes on, but models vary. It sometimes needs a bit of pulling, and if it's done in the tutorial I would expect you machine to be the same (at least if it's the same model).

Hence the reason I've not taken apart the tension assembly on my 66! It terrifies the daylights out of me! No help here, but good luck!

PB blaster! Squirt some on it and wait a few hours and try again. If it doesn't work, do it again and wait again. It sometimes takes a few days if squirt and wait and try again.

On some machines with the tension on the face plate the take up spring comes off with the stud. amhik.
