Thank you for the tutorial on refurbishing vintage/antique machines. My treadle (a Red Eye) was not in bad shape when I bought it. I replaced the belt and it did sew, but then seemed to "lock up," if that's the right term. I took it partially apart (with fear and trembling) and cleaned what I could, and gave it another oiling. It's working smoothly now. I've begun a bit of in-depth cleaning of the exterior, too. It's amazing how much dirt there is on even a pretty good-looking machine! Not being at all mechanically minded, I would have been too afraid to try any of this if it hadn't been for Billy and all the great folks here!

That looks nice!!!!!!!! I recently got a Red-Eye and am following Billy's instructions for cleaning it and getting it in shape. I think that is one of the most beautiful Singers they made. Mine is not a treadle but looks just like it.
I know one thing- if Billy wasn't here I'd never have bought it!! :D

I am glad to see you guys working on your machines and bringing them back to their former glory! And then for you to be using them and enjoying them is that much better. And look at all of the machines that we have saved since we started the VSMS thread.

I am the one that needs to be thanking you all for all the hard work you have put into the machines and saving them from the scrap heap! :-D

That is quite a difference in the pic! Great job & Congratulations on having the nerve to dive in and work on your machine. Will we get to see a pic when you have it all cleaned & polished?

Thanks Billy & all of you, that have helped others & passed along information on Vintage or Antique Machines. I have not done anything with my FW's or the Red Eye Treadle yet. I will though one day.
