Default Timing issue

I bought a Singer 301 from eBay without a needle. When I put a new needle in it hits the top of the solid part of the hook. I think this is a timing issue. Can someone tell me how to make the adjustment, or does anyone have the appropriate pages of the adjustment manual they would share? Thanks for any help!

I'm sure the needle is okay, as I have 2 other 301's. Good thought, though.

Do you have the needle in right?

I think I have the adjuster's manual for the 301. I will look when I get home.

There could be something jammed in the needle slot. Can you compare the depth of the needle in the slot to that of another 301?

I have the adjusters manual. Do you want me to scan the pages concerning timing and email them to you?
