Right and I've cut myself the few times I've done them. I turned down a job because I'm sick of pinching and cutting myself so thought I'd put some energy into getting the right tool for the job.

There could be a tip out there that I'm missing but I thinks it would have to be gouge shaped to scoop under and hold the ring without it sliding off. Such a tool would take the "sport" out of rewiring the old lamps.

I've tried cir-clip pliers to remove those rings before and had no luck at all. What worked here was blood sweat and tears. Then the other time, nothing worked. Those lamps are a nightmare to get apart!
