Your DH did a wonderful job on that cabinet. I have several cabinets that need refurbishing but need to wait for warm weather so I can get out in the garage to do it.

What a beautiful cabinet. I have one that I need to work on but have little experience with this. Do you have instructions and/or hints you would share so I can tackle mine this spring? Thanks.

Ditto here! I do OK with the oiling and cleaning but the woodworking is a little intimidating.

Here is briefly the technique:

1. Clean the entire surface with a wet rag.
2. Using denatured alcohol and very fine steel wool, going with the grain, wipe back and forth with pressure to remove as much of the finish as possible.
3. Sand with fine sandpaper in the direction of the grain
4. Clean with tack cloth or soft clean lint free rag
5. Apply Tung oil in the direction of the grain, applying thoroughly but not "wet" on the wood.
6. Wipe it all down thoroughly to remove any excess oil.

That's it. It does take some effort to get the old finish off, but worth it!!

Thanks Janice. I have a good candidate for your tute. I will be sure to post before and after pics. I will be going out tomorrow and purchase some Tung oil to add to my supplies.
