Default A "UNIQUE" treadle ... who made it?

There is a treadle machine for sale locally and the seller calls it a "Unique" treadle. I've blown the pic up and clarified it as much as I can but still cannot read the letters on the arm.

It looks like it might be a Davis made machine but I'm not sure. So, here's the pic for those of you who do know.

I'm not going for this one cos I'm baroke. The seller is asking $150.00 OBO.

Just contact the owner and ask him/her. Tell them you have access to other buyers and need the information.

I'm gonna guess "Davis" Looks like a square needle plate and the belt is on the far side of the wheel. The stitch length knob looks like Davis also

There is an older New Royal made machine that look a lot like Davis, but have the belt on the inside of the wheel.

White also has a square needle plate and belt inside the flywheel, but they have a very different looking back end.

However, if that is NOT a square needle plate, then it's something different.

My experience is that the seller rarely knows more about the machine than the Name decaled on the front. And when in doubt, they simply say it looks like a Singer . . . which I find amusing because Singer is one of the few that rarely put "names" other than Singer on their machines.

Looks like it could be 1890s based on the Eastlake style details of the cabinet. Nice looking machine.

Davis made a "Unique" model H underfeed machine and this appears to be it. I agree $150 is a bit steep. Unique is close to Davis Minnesota B though the bed size is slightly larger on this model.

Joe I think a Davis is right. I have seen a machine like this before.

It may be a Davis ME Version 1 "Unique". Here are a couple of photos of my parts machine.

Thanks for the info. Now I do wish I had enough to make the "OBO" offer.

Maybe next time.

CD,

Your "Unique" is a Davis Model H rather than a ME. Pictured is a Davis ME badged "Crescent". Link is for Davis model schematics located on bottom: Can't wait for a corrected encyclopedia to be published.

Thanks Jon. And all of this time I thought it was just ME.
