I've never seen this before. What am I looking at? Is it a toy?

I don't know but what I noticed is it looks like the Singer has been repainted on it. I don't remember seeing the letters so square looking on a machine before.

Interesting machine - it definitely is not a toy, they say it weighs 23 lbs. All the toys I have seen are fairly light.

Well, it's a hand crank but I'm betting SteveH or macybaby knows what it is!

That SINGER struck me in the eyeballs too.

Cute machine - would be fun to see it after cleaning up.

I seen one of these in an Antique shop. It was in mint condition and listed as 'A child's first sewing machine'...The letters did look different then what a normal size machine does. I figured a child's machine with a child's type printing made sense. I do not remember exactly what price they had on it but I could have bought 2 Singer treadles with money left over for lunch.

CUTE!! I see that is missing the tensioner as well as one of the slide plates. I have been collecting vintage machines for many years and have never seen anything like that Hopefully someone here will know what model it is.

It's a lock stitch machine while most toys aren't but the machining looks pretty crude on the needlebar and presser bar. The rectangular shape is more in keeping with a toy to me anyway.
The Singer logo didn't look right either but I know next to nothing about pre-1900 machines.
