Question White Rotary Bobbin Issue

Help. I have a White Rotary, approx 1920's, Krinkle finish. I cannot get the needle to catch the bobbin thread. I have been sewing 50 years, I know most issues, but this one eludes me. It's threaded correctly. Bobbin threaded and inserted correctly. Tension adjusted. Bobbin winder is disengaged. Tried several needles. Bobbin area is cleaned. Bobbin does not wobble. I know which way to turn the wheel. Have taken apart and reassembled bobbin several times. I'm at a loss as to why the needle won't grab the bobbin thread. It came with extra needles. Two are really long, tried one but it is too long and hits the bobbin threaded on the spool rather than catches it. Tried 3 of the 4 normal sized needles with no luck. They seem to be too short, but maybe that's just my eyes. Otherwise it works great. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would get a new needle which I know to be the correct size for the machine and try it again. And if it still doesn't pick up the thread rotate the needle 180 degrees in the needle bar, tighten it up, and try again. Also check the needle groove on the needle bar to make sure it's clean and will allow the needle to set all the way up.

Thanks Joe!! That was partially it. I had done a search on needles and the Singer 2020s fit it. But I needed to rotate the needle 90 degrees. This old machine threads left to right instead of front to back. I’ve been using newer machines for so long I’d forgotten. After reading your post it dawned on me where I went wrong. Now she is sewing like a dream!

Good call, Joe.

Sometimes it is the simple things that throw us for a loop. Glad you got it worked out. momthebaum

Do you have a manual for your machine?

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf
Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button.

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?
