Default Would someone please tell me

how to grease( lubricate) the gears? I have the oiling down pat but now I need to lubricate also..right? So which gears usually get greased and how exactly do I apply it, how much etc? Do I turn the wheel also? I have a tube of Singer lubricant and pictures or a good tutorial link would really help. I looked at you tube, and searched here using grease. Didn't come up with much. Thank you for guiding my newbie footsteps. I appreciate you all very much.

Just did mine this afternoon; but sorry I didn't take photos. My Singer 301a has great diagrams & instructions in the manual. To do the gears, I took two screws out of the very top part of the machine which then allows the top plate to be removed. The two gear areas are on the right of the machine. I used paper towels & Q-tips to remove the old black gue and then applied new grease with Tri-flow Clear Synthetic grease. Hope this helps. (all other areas were oiled with Tri-flo oil).

SunflowerZZ,

After you clean the gunk off of the gears, just put a small amount around one gear as you turn the hand wheel.

I use the curved syringe like those you can buy at Sew-Classic and hobby shops and cut the tip so I get about an 1/8" line of grease. One turn around the gear is all you need.

Ahh, that's what I needed to know. Thank you Joe. I will be driving right past a hobby shop tomorrow so I will stop and get several of those syringes.

That thin line should be no thicker than a kite string

Thanks Miriam, I would have made it bigger than that...more like a piece of yarn so thank you.
